Intro · The Part You Pay For and Haven't Used.
You've paid for Claude for a year, and nine in ten of your chats happen in that one web input box. This book is about the other tenth — the same model also lives in Projects, Skills, connectors, Cowork, and the terminal. It's not a feature list; it's a filter.
Here's probably how you use Claude: open the web page, type into that one input box, read the reply, type again. Thousands of conversations over a year, nearly all in the same box. That box is good — good enough that you've forgotten it's just one entrance to this subscription. Behind the same subscription sit Projects and Memory, Skills, connectors, Artifacts, Cowork, and Claude Code in the terminal. They run the same models — they just put them in different places. This book is about the places you've paid for and never switched to.

You Live in That Input Box.
You bought a whole set of products and use one chat box. 2026-07。Anthropic · Claude Plans & Pricing — Pro at $20/mo (or $17/mo billed annually), Max from $100/mo. As of 2026-07. Claude API Docs · Models overview — current main models Opus 4.8 ($5/$25 per Mtok, 1M context), Sonnet 5 ($3/$15, 1M), Haiku 4.5 ($1/$5). As of 2026-07. That $20 doesn't only buy web chat — it also opens Projects (which pin your files and instructions), Memory (which learns your habits on its own), Skills (which fold repeated prompts into method), connectors (which let Claude read your Gmail and Drive), the built-in skills that hand you a real spreadsheet, Cowork (which runs whole tasks for you on the desktop), and Claude Code in the terminal. Behind all of it is the same set of models: Opus 4.8, Sonnet 5, Haiku 4.5.2注 2Note 2Claude API Docs · Models overview —— 当前主力模型 Opus 4.8($5/$25 每百万 token,1M 上下文)、Sonnet 5($3/$15,1M)、Haiku 4.5($1/$5)。 Claude API Docs · Models overview — current main models Opus 4.8 ($5/$25 per Mtok, 1M context), Sonnet 5 ($3/$15, 1M), Haiku 4.5 ($1/$5). As of 2026-07. The problem isn't that you're lazy. The problem is the product page only tells you 'what it can do,' never 'given your kind of work, is this worth ten minutes.' The wider the features spread, the more 'should I learn this' decisions pile up — and you have real work to do, so you skip all of them and retreat to the box you know best. So breadth isn't the membership's perk — it's its tax. What this book tries to do is pick out the part of that tax that actually pays off.

This Is a Filter, Not a Catalog.
I cut the long tail for you and keep the 20% that covers 80% of the cases. For each core capability, this book answers only three questions: what it saves, when to use it, and when not to. It won't teach you which button to click from scratch — buttons get redesigned in three months; judgment doesn't. What you get is a ruler to measure your own work against, not a path to follow. The 20% that stays is the chapters ahead: saying it clearly first, then picking a model and the thinking switch, Projects and Memory, Skills, connectors, Artifacts and Claude Design, Cowork, Research and Claude in the browser, Claude Code — and finally how to choose a tier. What gets cut is named too: the Agent SDK, Managed Agents, deploying on Bedrock / Vertex / Foundry, SCIM and the compliance API — those are for developers and enterprise IT, not for a paying user drowning in product breadth. They matter; they're just not in your ten minutes.

Choosing a Surface Is Choosing a Rhythm.
Same model — the question was never 'can it,' but 'which surface does this task belong to.' Anthropic · Claude Cowork product page — brings Claude Code's agentic ability into the desktop app; describe an outcome, no terminal required.Three rhythms, and one line is enough to remember: the web is for thinking it through, Cowork is for handing it off, the terminal is for finishing it. The same request, dropped into the web, is a back-and-forth; dropped into Cowork, you say it and walk away and come back to a formatted result; dropped into the terminal, it edits and verifies code inside your repo.3注 3Note 3Anthropic · Claude Cowork 产品页 —— 把 Claude Code 的 agent 能力搬进桌面端,描述结果即可,无需终端。Anthropic · Claude Cowork product page — brings Claude Code's agentic ability into the desktop app; describe an outcome, no terminal required. So you don't have to read this front to back. If you never touch code, skip the 'Write Code · The Development Loop in Your Terminal' chapter — it's a separate one precisely so you can skip it cleanly. If you only want two chapters first, read 'Hand It Off · Cowork' and 'Distill It · Skills': the first is the surface a web-chat user is most likely missing; the second is the fastest way to fold your weekly busywork away. The one chapter to read no matter which surface you use is the next one, 'Say It Clearly' — the multiplier for all the rest. Before doing anything else, hold up a mirror — see where you've actually been cramming all your work:
01
Scroll back, pick 5
Open your Claude history, scroll back two weeks, and pick 5 things you've asked it to do — more than once.
02
Tag each with two columns
Make a five-row table: task / the surface you used then / the surface you now think it belonged on (web, Projects, Skills, connectors, Cowork, terminal — fill it on instinct now, come back and fix it after reading).
03
Count how many rows say 'web'
The second column is probably 'web' on all five rows. That table is your starting point for this book — and your control group once you've finished it.
When you're done, you'll see it's not that Claude lacks some capability — it's that you've been standing at one entrance the whole time.
